Introduction
The function of the Get Involved! Blog is exactly that, to get you involved! It provides an opportunity and space to connect to projects and people all over the world, who also want to get involved. Ultimately this space is what you make it, whether you are young or old, experienced or otherwise, you can contribute.
The Get Involved! Blog is comprised of two parts, the Pages, and the Posts.
1) The Pages are there to provide a variety of information on different topics, from volunteer opportunities to resources for teachers and parents.
2) A Post is a blog topic and they can be found in the different Categories listed, we encourage you to read and comment on the various topics you find within. We hope they will inspire you to do your own Susila Dharma in whatever way feels right to you.
A brilliant feature of the blog to check out are the RSS Feeds, which are easily set up to keep you notified of new Posts and Comments! See How to Get Started for more details.
“Doing” Susila Dharma
“Susila Dharma” refers to the inner motivation to care for other living beings, ethically and with humanity. SDIA’s aim is to help and support ordinary people, of all ages and backgrounds, to get involved at any level they can to give the best that is within them to improve the lives of others.
Following this inner motivation – or “doing” Susila Dharma – can take many forms!
Following this inner motivation – or “doing” Susila Dharma – can take many forms! For some it becomes their life’s work: starting a soup kitchen, a program for at-risk youth or a health centre. For those of us who are not in a position to start our own social or environmental project, we can support and build a human connection with those who are doing this work everyday.
This might mean holding a fundraiser for a project that you believe in or using your talents to support a community project. It might mean telling a story to open a child’s mind. It might mean volunteering in another country, or across the street, or participating in a debate about hot topics around development and human rights.
Some of what’s on the Blog …
Hot topics
In this blog category, we want you to join in our discussions about the important issues which face us as human beings and as a network: food security, global warming, human rights, project sustainability, and other current issues.
Volunteering, Jobs and Educational Opportunities
On these pages we post volunteer, job and educational opportunities that exist within our SD Network. Use the blog to share with us your volunteer experiences (good and bad), or your interests, and maybe SDIA can help you find a project that needs you, or a volunteer to help your project… You can also use the blog to ask questions about volunteering, and to discuss issues with other participants.
Volunteer Experiences
From an international group of youngsters participating in work camps, to an Australian on a long-term placement in Kalimantan, to an experience of volunteering at a local project in the UK – read about people’s experiences – and tell us your own.
Fundraising Ideas
Here, we invite you to share fundraising ideas that can help build support for social, health and community initiatives. We already have some schemes that are up and running, and we are eager to find and support new initiatives.

Inspiring Stories
Read of what others from around the world have been up to, and comment on what they have to say. Write to us and share your experiences, both large and small, of ways you have found to help improve the well-being of your family, community, region, environment or country. Or tell us about what has inspired you to “do” Susila Dharma.
Teachers’ and Parents’ Resources
Sharing with kids the stories of other children around the world, and the daily problems they face can help to open their minds. By talking to them about how their choices can affect the lives of others, you can broaden their awareness as global citizens. We need your help here! Please give us some input into this part of the site by sending stories, photos and kids’ activities at getinvolved@susiladharma.org
Learn about people’s personal experiences or new developments at some of the member projects of Susila Dharma, including a seed bank at a project in India, an early childhood programme in Colombia and a sustainability initiative in Haïti.
