The Volunteers Without Tears (VWT) team is considering the viability of Volunteer Training Workshops. The content of these would include looking at various projects which are actively seeking volunteers and considering the needs, expectations, and capacity building opportunities for both project and volunteer. Basic skills training would include listening and other communication skills, cultural sensitivity, self sufficiency, health and social needs, organising travel and visas.
Latihans, relevant testing, work details and fun would be an essential element. The facilitators would also invite past volunteers to share their experiences. We would not expect these workshops to take the place of initial orientation sessions by the projects, but rather to serve as an introduction to the process of volunteering, which could be useful to people considering enrolling with commercial volunteering agencies as well as those seeking to work with Susila Dharma supported projects.
Information about projects for potential volunteers has long been available on the SDI website. We are now hoping that this ‘blog will be a vehicle for questions, advice, and possibly mentoring by experienced volunteers.
Please post your comments, needs, offers of help and experience!
If you have experienced project volunteering, at home or abroad, with Subud or other organisations, please fill out the questionnaire you will find on the volunteering home page, and let us know if you would willing to act as mentor to others.
We need to know your views, especially if you think a training workshop would be useful. Let us know on the blog, or by emailing……….
